This small German winegrowing area is called “the paradise of red wine”. It is situated 25 km along the river Rhine, on the left-hand side, between Koblenz and Bonn. Vines grow on approximately 1300 acres, for the most part red vines. Although it is located fairly in the north, it has a Mediterranean micro-climate with a high average temperature.
The lower and middle valley of the river Ahr are protected by the High Eiffel. The lower valley looks like a landscape of gardens. The middle valley appears rough and meandering. The vineyards are terraced. The soil, rocks and vineyard walls made of dark slate and greywacke save the heat of the sun during the day and pass it on to the vines in the night.
