The Rhinegau (Rheingau) is one of the most famous winegrowing areas of Germany and enjoys a good reputation around the world. The area is known for its large, winegrowing estates of a fine tradition, chateau Johannisberg (Schloss Johannisberg), chateau Reinhartshausen (Schloss Reinhartshausen) and monastery Eberbach (Kloster Eberbach), setting of the movie classic “The name of the rose”.
The region is one of the smallest winegrowing areas of Germany, stretching 30 kilometres with approximately 3200 ha space between Floersheim and Lorchhausen.
Riesling is grown almost exclusively. Enthusiasts of dry and semi-dry wine will get their money worth. Great Rieslings grow in this region, since the vineyards are in the slipstream of the Taunus and the broad Rhine is floating by.

Main vine vatieties: Riesling (78%), Late Burgunder (13%), Mueller-Thurgau (2%).
