Palatinate (Pfalz)

The Palatinate is Germany’s second largest winegrowing area. It spans along 80 kilometres from Worms to Schweigen at the border of Alsace. Especially the southern part belongs to the warmest and sunniest winegrowing regions. Almost every soil variety on which good vines grow are present: bunter, shell limestone, clay, granite, slate, marl and porphyry.
In the North, large spaces extend on rolling hills, where it is possible to use vinicultural machinery. Rieslings from Kallstadt, Wachenheim, Forst, Deidesheim and Ruppertsberg are world-famous.
Riesling accounts for one fifth of the winegrowing area. On the other vineyards, Mueller-Thurgau, Dornfelder, Kerner, Portugieser, Silvaner and Scheurebe thrive.
Rieslings from this region are dry and have more alcohol compared to other areas.

Main vine varieties: Riesling (21%), Mueller-Thurgau (14%), Dornfelder (12%).
